Happy New Year to all! It’s been wonderful to have so many opportunities to stare at snow covered landscapes and trees frosted with freshly fallen snow as if sprinkled with icing sugar. The contrasts are amazing in a snow covered scene. Shapes become simpler and easy to read…the monochrome effect helping you to understand the relationships between dark and light. I’ve not been brave enough to go out there and paint in it but the snow has inspired some painting indoors.
It was really good to see so many friends at the NEC Art Materials live show in early November.
For those of you who are eagerly awaiting delivery of my book Flowers in the Landscape that you ordered from me…they are here at last! I shall send your signed copy out to you on Monday when we are clear of any strike action at Royal mail.
Just received an advance copy of the book I have been working on with Search Press over the last two years. Flowers in the Landscape is the title. It does make for quite a special moment seeing your work published for the first time, and holding the finished book in your hands. But I have to say that I know everything in the book so well now that I have to really try and imagine how it will look and read to someone seeing it for the first time. Here’s hoping it will be useful to you all. I really enjoyed doing it.
When I started out on watercolour, I read everything I could get my hands on to help me practise all the special techniques. I soon became fascinated with this medium and still enjoy the challenge every day.
I’ve been enjoying the flowers in my garden this summer and have been doing a different style of painting more reliant on drawing. I’ve had the flowers in front of me in a glass vase. I always find painting glass a enjoyable challenge. I like the more contemporary feel of the light background too. What do you think?
Welcome to my new blog. I hope to use this space to pass on news and let you know what is going on in the world of Ann Mortimer Art. So I hope you’ll visit the blog to keep in touch with what’s happening and perhaps even leave a comment.
