During my twenty two years as a watercolour artist, I’ve been fascinated with the translucency of the medium and its ability to depict light. I enjoy its capacity to move and settle in unexpected ways that often delight. Watercolour painting is an exciting, playful dance to see who can gain control, the artist or the medium. I am gradually realising that the best work is created when the medium is given room to flourish.
I live and work in Nottinghamshire. After studying ‘A’ Level Art, completing a languages degree followed by a PCGE, I taught secondary school French for several years and then I raised our three fabulous children. In 1991 I was able to reawaken my lifelong interest in painting and drawing.
Over the last few years I’ve been teaching for art societies and in my home studio, and exhibiting annually with the Society of Floral Painters.
I have had several articles published in Leisure Painter and have produced two watercolour techniques books with Search Press: “Flowers in the Landscape”, 2009 and “Ready to Paint Orchids”, 2012 as well as featuring in the Search Press compilation “Watercolour Painting Step by Step”, 2012.
I’ve been working with Search Press on a third book on painting flowers in watercolour. It will be packed full of instruction, step by step demonstrations and ideas. Hope you’ll look out for it in 2017!
