Well after an amazingly wet Winter, Spring is here in the UK along with an accompanying sense of uncertainty and gloom which is worldwide. Covid 19 is an unwelcome visitor.
But we carry on and keep going, gardening, enjoying the emerging blossom, painting and drawing what we see around us. To be honest I haven’t been painting much lately…I need to be upbeat to paint and it’s difficult.
But back in February I was enjoying adding to my garden journal…I use a combination of watercolour and pen and wash for these pages.
I will leave the images nice and big so you can read the words. There is nothing so hopeful and positive than seeing fresh Spring growth appearing…and it goes on no matter what dreadful things are happening around us. We have to appreciate that and give thanks.
I do love designing these pages and they serve as a reminder of what was around me and how I felt about it.
The magnolia was uprooted from our old house and brought here and it’s doing well. love its elegant blooms.
I wish everyone well in these awful times and look forward to better days ahead. Keep safe!
Loved your Spring journal pages so pretty Ann !!

I so love your work but I had to thank you for saying that you need to be upbeat to paint ! I’ve not been able to paint for all these weeks of physical distancing either, and was beating myself up for it . Your comment has helped me realize what is happening, and I’m so glad I’m not alone !

Hi Sandy Thanks so much for your comment. Yes I reckon many artists are struggling to find a suitable state of mind to be creative. I did actually start some work today though! Perhaps the sunshine helped.
And Ive been inspired by the lovely Spring blossom. Hang in there! This too will pass…Heres to better times soon. X

Oh Ann… Thank you so much for these lovely pages! They have brightened up my day. With just the bare necessity of lines you completely capture the essence of these beauties. I love the way the pigments play together to bring them form and depth. Such joy and life jumping off the pages. : ) I know you need to be upbeat to paint, but I want to encourage you to get back out into your garden. It has no idea what is happening in the world outside it. It is busy bursting forth, and all for you… to enjoy, to bask in its beauty, and to pull weeds. ; ) Soak it in, then grab your pen and brush… Let your lovely flowers lift your heart. Praying you find peace and joy in your garden…
Just an admirer… Phyllis

How beautiful in these difficult times. It reminds me of the diary of an Edwardian lady but much more colourful. I love it!
